$1 Day at Buffalo Exchange

There's nothing like shopping for a cause. April 20th was $1 Day at all Buffalo Exchange locations. Everything that was set outside of my local Buffalo Exchange's parking lot, was only a $1. And better yet, all the profits made from the fundraiser go towards The Humane Society's Be Cruelty-Free Campaign that is trying to help raise awareness about animals being tested on for cosmetics.

It was an extremely fun morning. The $1 sales started at 9AM in the morning and by 9:30AM most of the boxes of the dollar items were empty. There were a variety of different clothing items that were of good quality. If there were some messed up items, they were easy fixes like a tiny hole and a broken zipper. There were brands like Forever 21, H&M, Hurley, and even locally made brands!

I got around 16 clothing items all for $16.00! Here are some of them.

I couldn't believe it when I found these faux leather pants for a $1, and they're in great condition.

I never was a big fan of the hi-low skirt trends but I thought I'd try it out with a skirt that was only a $1, plus it has red polka dots.

Another hi-low item. This time it's a shirt with a star pattern.

Overall, it was a fun shopping spree and I'm going to try to do it again next year and see if I can go to more than one store location to get more clothes.

What did you do for Earth Day?

Prom 2013: Hey Alice

I recently attended my high school's first prom ever. I was lucky enough this year to run the Prom Committee that was full of dedicated students who just wanted to experience one of the biggest high school events. Everything turned out beautiful and worth all of the hard work we put into it throughout the whole school year. We had to raise all of the funds ourselves and it was such a difficult and stressful journey but it all paid off. By prom night we had raised $1700.

The theme was Masked Wonderland Ball, a combination of Alice in Wonderland and Masquerade. Many of the decorations were either made or bought at thrift stores or dollar stores. We were able to stay under budget.

So it was an over all beautiful night. Everyone danced, including the teachers, and people were full of laughter and smiles. AND there were so many gorgeous dresses!

Anyway, off to the pictures of my date and I. I bought my dress at a local boutique for only $20 and of course I had to do a modern twist on my prom outfit with red sneakers that were on sale for $20 at Burlington's. Jacket was also from Burlington's.

Makeup was done by a local salon. It was excellent service and I never had to do a touch-up!

Prom Dresses Under $100

Prom is just around the corner and I'm sure many girls my age are going crazy trying to find the right dress with a tight budget. I feel you, girlies. Here are some of my favorite dresses that are all under $100 and still fashionable.

Blogging Block

It's been a month since I've posted anything. I suppose school has gotten to me more than I thought. Prom is just around the corner and that's all I've been working on. It's my school's first prom ever and I'm in charge of making it happen. Each week we have a new list of things to get accomplished and that's been my goal-not getting behind. We're almost there! The prom theme is a masked wonderland ball. It's Alice in Wonderland and Masquerade mixed together. I'm going prom dress shopping tomorrow so I hope to have a post on it soon.

So, yes, I've been having a blogging block. Looking through tumblr photos, pinterest, and fashion magazines hasn't done me any good. I'm still in love with fashion. I still get overly excited when I get a chance to shop. I just haven't had the time or inspiration to blog about fashion.

However, I'm coming back. I can bet you that.

Thrift Haul

I apologize for my long absence. It feels like I live at school now as I'm trying to graduate on time. Only four more credits left! I'm going to try harder to post more. I have lots of post ideas but just no time to put them together.

Anyways, a month ago I took a trip to one of my city's most authentic streets. 4th Avenue is full of local businesses and is a place of inspiration. There's so many different people running around there. It's the home of a variety of alternative sub-cultures. Back in the 70's, the hippies claimed the street. Then the punks came flooding in. It's a colorful street with lots of history. I wish I took pictures that day, but like usual it didn't come to mind.

First, I hit the How Sweet It Was vintage shop. Of course this can't be considered a thrift shop because it was mostly vintage with authentic items like real fur coats. Most of the clothes they had were for rental because they were so delicate. I did purchase a really soft kinda crop top with a leopard print.

It was for $9.95, which I thought was a pretty good deal for a vintage shop. It's super soft and the best part of it is the back.
You can easily tell that this was not done by the manufacturer. But the knots give it more flair instead of being a plain crop top. I have still thought of how to wear this yet, but I'm sure I'll figure it out. Do you have any suggestions on how to wear this?

Then I hit to Goodwill where I was sweetly surprised. I had no idea on that day there was a 50% off sale on EVERYTHING (except for pink tag items). It wasn't just at that store either. This sale was nation-wide, I think. So I was pretty thrilled about that and I must've spent two hours there going through each clothing item on the over-crowded rack.

I found this sheer black blouse.
I was a little unsure about buying it because I didn't know how the material will fit on me but the two buttons stole my hear. They're shiny. Haha.

It was regular $4.99. And with the 50% discount, I got it for $3.50. What an awesome buy!
I loved the floral print of this dress and the length. It felt like the perfect spring dress. I already worn it a few times even though it's freezing over here in Arizona.
Look at the print! So pretty!

The back (as you can see above) kind of confused me because it has flaps that look like they belong in the front. But once I tried it on, I began to understand the structure of it.
This was originally $4.99. I got it for $3.50.

This green lacey dress immeaditly caught my eye.
It was originally $12.99, which is obviously way overpriced for a thrift shop and I bet if it wasn't for the 50% discount I think I would've left it at the store.

So that was my adventure at 4th Avenue.
Let me know what you think of my purchases and how you'd outfit that leopard (is it leopard or cheetah?) print top.
Thanks!

Little Jen, the Devil

She's a constant topic on Go Fug Yourself because of her daring and revealing outfits. Most of the posts about her on What The Frock are titled "fashion redemptions".
There's tons of speculation about how fast she has grown up. And some people aren't so keen of her rebellious side.
I present to you, my style icon, Taylor Momsen, the star behind Jenny Humphrey and the lead singer of The Pretty Reckless.

Most people will say she needs to wear some pants, she needs to stop wearing long shirts as a dress, and she needs some guidance when buying shoes that don't scream stripper.

But honestly, I love how she breaks so many fashion rules without even caring. Most of my outfits are inspired by her rocker looks. Here are some of my favorite outfits on her.

Here she is sporting the grunge look very well with an Iron Maiden band t-shirt and a plaid shirt as a sweater.
I'm seeing some Courtney Love inspiration here. The lace dress and leather jacket is a great combination with the pop of red lip.
I'm in love with these tights she seems to wear a lot. If only my own floral fishnets didn't rip.
Am I the only one noticing her undying love with this pair of shades? I love how she stays true to the metal genre with ripped jeans and a moto jacket.
The only thing I don't like abut this outfit are the shoes. It takes the classy away from the tie and vest.
Ugh, the shoes again. I'm just not a fan of Gladiator's. But here she is once again, sporting the plaid look. I love this shirt dress on her. I love how the ends are ripped around the edges.
This is one of my favorite outfits from her. I'm always looking for clothes that will mimic this combination.
While I was looking through photos of her on Google Images and Tumblr, I began to notice a personal trend she had set for herself. The longer her hair is, the less clothes she wears.

What's your opinion on Taylor?
